The challenge

Cloud platforms are essential to modern business—but they don’t guarantee data recovery. Many organizations mistakenly believe their SaaS providers are responsible for protecting their data, when in fact, recovery from accidental deletion, ransomware, or misconfiguration is the customer’s responsibility. Without a dedicated backup solution, critical business data remains vulnerable to loss, compliance violations, and operational disruption.

What is cloud-to-cloud backup?

Mission-critical information deserves high-priority protection, which enables reliable availability and recovery of data stored in cloud-based platforms. Using automated daily backups, OpenText Core Cloud-to-Cloud Backup protects data in SaaS platforms such as Microsoft 365, Google, Salesforce, Box, and Dropbox. With full redundancy and versatile recovery methods, this important tool allows businesses to restore regular operations quickly in the event of a cyber incident.

Frequently Asked Questions

Cybersecurity is complex, and you might still have questions. We’ve answered some common ones below, but if you’re still curious about something, contact our team to discuss your specific situation.

Cloud to cloud backup is data protection for SaaS applications such as Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Salesforce, etc. With increasing malware, including ransomware attacks and data breaches, it is critical to protect SaaS data. Cloud to cloud backup enables businesses to back up their select user data and restore data anytime, anywhere.

Cloud storage allows you to keep some of your files outside of your primary devices. Cloud storage services like Dropbox or Box are good for storing files, photos and videos to one centralized location – the cloud. You can access your files from any device and easily share files; it also allows easy syncing. But cloud storage isn’t the same thing as backup. Cloud backup – also known as online backup – is specifically designed for making copies of your files. It ensures continuous backup and offers an easy way to restore your files in the event of loss or deletion. For example, if you lose your files, photos or videos stored in the cloud, you have cloud backup to restore those files.

While cloud applications and storage do offer some data protection, relying solely on SaaS providers is risky. Many businesses assume cloud data is fully secure, but most vendors don’t provide comprehensive, long-term backups. This leaves businesses exposed to risks like accidental deletion or cyberattacks. As with on-premises systems, it’s ultimately your responsibility to implement reliable backup and recovery solutions.

Businesses are responsible for backing up their SaaS application data due to the Shared Responsibility Model employed by most SaaS vendors. While SaaS providers ensure high availability of their services, they do not take full responsibility for data loss caused by human error, outages, or cyber threats. In fact, their terms of service often state that users are “jointly responsible” for protecting their data. Without a third-party backup solution, your data may be permanently deleted after a certain retention period. That’s why many SaaS vendors explicitly recommend using external backup services to safeguard business-critical information.
